Cephaloridine in gonorrhoea in females.

چکیده
Material and Management Cephaloridine ("Ceporin") was used to treat 255 attacks of uncomplicated gonorrhoea (other than gonococcal proctitis) in 234 women. Of these 234 patients, 182 were born in the United Kingdom, 26 were from Southern Ireland, 26 from the West Indies, and the remaining three from India. 34 per cent. of the patients were aged between 13 and 19 years, 31 per cent. between 20 and 24 years, and 34 per cent. over 24 years. The diagnosis of gonorrhoea was based on the recognition of diplococci morphologically identical to gonococci in films stained by Gram's or Sandiford's methods, or on the presence of gonococci in chocolate agar cultures. Specimens for films and cultures were taken from the urethra, the vagina, and the cervix, and at times from the rectum. Treatment consisted of either 2 g. cephaloridine given as a single injection or of one injection of 1 g. repeated the following day. These treatments were given alternately except on Saturdays when all patients were given 2g. cephaloridine. Table I shows the number of patients receiving each treatment and their age distribution.

Cephaloridine treatment of gonorrhoea in the female.
The emergence of strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae relatively resistant to penicillin has created difficulties in the treatment of gonorrhoea (Thayer and Moore, 1964). Progressively larger doses of the drug are required for cure, and if the present trend continues, we may in the near future be faced with strains completely resistant to penicillin. The need to evaluate alternative drugs for treat...

متن کاملGonococcal infection in teen-aged girls and mature women.
The spread of gonorrhoea must be prevented by investigating, tracing, and treating the female sexual contacts of men treated for this infection. Its obvious clinical nature in males and the simple test available for diagnosis are the factors concerned in this method of control. In the main, the epidemiological control of venereal disease is a major function of our nation-wide public health clin...
متن کاملCephaloridine in vitro toxicity and accumulation in renal slices from normoglycemic and diabetic rats.
Previous work has shown a reduction in cephaloridine nephrotoxicity in a diabetic rat model. The following studies examined in vitro cephaloridine toxicity in renal slices from normoglycemic and diabetic Fischer 344 rats. Diabetes was induced by acute intraperitoneal injection of 35 mg/kg streptozotocin. Renal cortical slices were isolated from normoglycemic and diabetic animals. Tissues were e...
